The Week's Sermons Holy Saturday - The Easter Vigil Easter Evensong at St Clement's
|
I was invited by the good people of St Elisabeth's Parish Church in Reddish, Stockport to be with them from Palm Sunday to Easter Day. I worked and ministered alongside The Revd Hilary Evans, who is their Ordained Local Ministery. She presided at most of the services, and I preached at all of them. I also presided on Palm Sunday and at the Easter Vigil. It was a great honor and experience to be with them at St Elisabeth's. It is a beautiful building, and they have a wonderful traditional and high church liturgy. The sermons I preached each included a version of 'Amazing Grace.' I was inspired by Britain's celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade. To what are we slaves? And how do we free ourselves from the bonds of our mental and psychological slaveries? This was explored through the different themes of Holy Week. I was also scheduled to preach in the evening at my own parish, St Clement's, Chorlton-cum-Hardy, on Easter Sunday for Evensong. I continued the 'Amazing Grace' theme, and include that sermon here.
